Elawa Park Adopted by an Anonymous Party

is now the first Lake Forest property to be officially adopted through the city’s Adopt a Park Program.

Theapproved a motion to approve the adoption of Elawa Farm Park by a party, who wishes to remain anonymous.

The Adopt a Park program, which was implemented last fall, enables various parks and open lands to be “adopted” by organizations or individuals in the community who take on responsibility of maintaining that property.

“It’s to help the city enhance its park facilities,” explained Dan Reeves, superintendent of parks.

According to Reeves, the adoption of Elawa Farm Park will save Lake Forest approximately $10,000 in labor and materials.

The adopting party is now responsible for the general upkeep of the property including mowing, landscaping, weeding, watering, and the planting of trees.

Reeves told council members that plans are currently being considered for the planting of some natural grasses and plants around the park.

 “It’s pretty remarkable that we have an individual in the community who wants to give their own time, and money to give support, and to remain anonymous,” said Lake Forest Mayor James Cowhey, about the anonymous adoption of Elawa Farm Park.

All landscape plans will be brought before the Lake Forest park board, and then the city council for approval.
