Feast At St. Mary's Fund-raiser; Tour Lake Forest Police, Fire Departments

  • Why Go?: Fund-raiser for the School of St. Mary. Golf and pig roast dinner, DJ, auction and raffle.
  • Pricing: $200 per golfer; $50 per person for pig roast only.

  • Where / When: ; 6 - 8 p.m. Friday (Sept. 16).
  • Why Go?: The is hosting this event to highlight the accomplishments of Henry Ives Cobb, one of Chicago's most influential architects of the 1800s. Architectural historian, Edward W. Wolner, and local historian, Art Miller, will present this program in the sanctuary of the church. Reception and book signing follow at a private home. For more information, call (847) 234-1230.

  • Why Go?: Shop the more than 100,000 books that will be for sale along with dvds, cds and more. Saturday is Teacher Appreciation Day-teachers take 10 percent off. Sunday is Bargain Day-all items will be 50 percent off. Proceeds benefit the .

  • Where / When: , Billy Uhlig Memorial Skate Park; Noon, Saturday (Sept. 17).
  • Why Go?: Skateboarders will compete in three age groups in this fund-raiser. Prizes donated by area skate shops will be awarded. Funds raised will be used to maintain and improve the skate park. Food and beverages will be available. Registration begins at noon and the contest begins at 1 p.m. Click here to download the registration form.
  • Pricing: Free to compete but donations to the in memory of John Sheppard are gratefully appreciated.

  • Where / When: , behind City Hall; 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, (Sept. 17).
  • Why Go?: Local farmers and specialty merchants will be selling locally grown produce, seasonal fruits and vegetables, meat, poultry, dairy products, and more. Local chefs will sell a variety of their specially-made treats like cupcakes, pies, cookies, dips, salsas, homemade granola and homemade marshmallows.
  • Pricing: Free admission.

  • Where / When: Public Safety Building; 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday (Sept. 18).
  • Why Go?: Get an up-close look at the engines, ambulances and squad cars at the Fire and Police Stations. Watch a live Flight-for-Life helicopter landing and firemen in action during live fire demonstrations. Visit the Lake County Fire Safety Trailer, slide down a fire pole, spray water through a real fire hose at a target and find out how a home sprinkler system works. You won't want to miss the live Fire & Police Fashion show at 1:30 p.m.
  • Pricing: Free.
