Ghosts, Goblins and Trick-or-Treats: Your Top Five Best Bets for the Weekend

1) Lake Bluff Ghost Walk: What better way to ring in Halloween than with a spooky walk through Lake Bluff? Ghoulish guides will lead attendees through the scarier elements of Lake Bluff’s history – such as a possible sea monster sighting, Al Capone and his gangsters and even the murder/suicide debate of Elfrieda Knaack! The Ghos Walk is hosted by the Lake Bluff History Museum. Tours depart from the Lake Bluff History Museum every 15 minutes – from 6 – 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 5 – 8 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets must be purchased for a specific time slot and advanced ticket sales are recommended. You can get them online at www.ghostwalklakebluff.com. Sat. Oct. 27 and Sun. Oct. 28, Lake Bluff History Museum, 127 E. Scranton Ave., 6-9 p.m. on Sat., 5-8 p.m. on Sun, $25 per ticket.

2) Local Legends 2012: John Bryan Interviewed by Bill Kurtis: John Bryan, a retired CEO of Sara Lee Corporation whose civic involvement ranges from Lake Bluff’s Crab Tree Farm to Millennium Park in Chicago, is being honored by the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society at their third annual Local Legends Event. Bill Kurtis will host this event, asking Bryan questions about his life and career as a leading figure in business and cultlure. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at http://www.lflbhistory.org, or by calling (847) 234-5253. Tickets will also be available at the door. Sat. Oct. 27, Lake Forest High School Raymond Moore Auditorium, 4 p.m., $50 per ticket.

3) Halo-Ween Costume Party Fundraiser: Help raise money for the LFHS Steven Malin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, which honors good character in youth. The event will feature a buffet, a DJ, dancing, a cash bar and prizes for the best costumes! Tickets are $60 each, and available online at http://www.movingforwardhangingon.com. Fri. Oct. 26, Lake Forest Club, 554 N. Westmoreland Rd., 7:30 p.m., $60 per ticket.

4) Fall Festival: Deer Park will be celebrating Halloween a little early this year. Take part in their Fall Festival and enjoy free trick-or-treating at participating businesses, a dog costume contest, the Monster Mash, a stilt walker, a balloon artist and free face painting. Sat. 5) Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Halloween Party: Calling all Lake Forest preschoolers through 3rd grade (and their parents)! The Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with Forest Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry for a fun-filled afternoon of entertainment, games and a haunted house.
