Lake Bluff Makes Chicago Mag’s Best Suburbs List

The magazine named the best 12 burbs in terms of low crime and good real estate.

Do you love living in Lake Bluff?

Chicago Magazine says you have good reason to. It named the suburb one of the 12 best to live in based on low crime and good real estate.

The editors analyzed statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data, the Illinois State Board of Education, the U.S. Census Bureau, and local police departments to come up with two lists, which showcases the 12 best suburbs and 12 best city neighborhoods.

Lake Bluff was one of two Lake County towns to make the list, the other being Highland Park. Northbrook and Wilmette also get nods.

The editors singled out Lake Bluff’s low, low crime rate — not a single violent crime was reported in 2013 — as well as its good real estate scene. The housing market hasn’t fully recovered from the recession, so you can still get a good deal in town. Homes are about a third less than at the peak of the real estate bubble, the article says.

In choosing Lake Bluff, Chicago Magazine wrote: " Want to send your kids to excellent Lake Forest High School while sidestepping the affluent Lake Forest scene? Tiny Lake Bluff is the place. … Expect to feel frozen in time in this little village—in a good way.”
