North Shore Woman Named Director of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital's Breast Care Program

Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital welcomes Dr. Tara Breslin as the director of its breast cancer program.

Breast surgeon/oncologist Tara Breslin, MD, MS, has been named medical director of the breast care program at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and has joined the staff of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

Breslin, a native of Evanston who recently moved to the North Shore with her husband and two children, brings two decades of research, academic and clinical experience in breast health and breast surgery to the hospital. She will also serve as an associate professor of surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

“I’m excited to join the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital staff and practice with the excellent physicians of Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation,” said Dr. Breslin. “My research focuses on measuring, analyzing, and improving quality in breast care programs to improve overall health outcomes in communities. While my research focuses on broad populations, my goal as a physician is always to use this research and knowledge to achieve the best possible health outcome for each individual patient.”

Breslin comes to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital from The University of Michigan Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, where she has served as an assistant professor since 2007. Prior to that position she was an assistant professor in the University of Wisconsin’s Department of Surgery from 2000 to 2007.

An established breast surgery expert, Breslin has performed more than 1,500 surgeries in her 13-year career and her research has been widely published in health journals and publications.

Breslin received her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in 1988 and her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 1992. She also has a master’s degree in population health sciences. Breslin is board certified in surgery from the American Board of Surgery and is licensed in Illinois and Michigan.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Breslin to our medical staff,” said Marsha L. Oberrieder, vice president of operations and administrator of the oncology and breast programs at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. “Dr. Breslin’s extensive research and clinical experience in breast care and breast surgery will be a valuable addition to our women’s health services.”
