Michelle Pabon-Acevedo and Jessey Fettinger arrived home in Lake Villa from their New Year’s Eve plans about 11:30 p.m., and the New Year burst right about then.

Within a few hours, her mom Aurora Pabon arrived, and by 4 a.m., the group arrived at .

Had they planned a New Year’s Day baby? It was a great surprise, they both said.

"We were just in the process of buying a house and found out the same week we were pregnant,” said Pabon-Acevedo, of Lake Villa. “So, it’s been an exciting year.”

“I’ve got to get used to buying all the girly stuff, the pink stuff, the ruffle stuff,” said her "forever and ever" boyfriend Fettinger.

“But that’s OK,” she laughed, “because I was used to buying dump trucks and those kinds of things.”

The couple also has an almost 6-year-old son, Mathias Pabon-Acevedo, who was there, too. Fettinger’s other son was unable to be at the hospital.

Fettinger’s a hospice aide throughout Lake and Cook counties. “I’m very excited about a little girl. This is a happier time,” he said.

Michelle is an administrative assistant at Brentwood North Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Riverwoods, and plans to go back to work. But, she said, “it’s always hard to leave” babies.

As for their original New Year’s Day plans, Michelle and Jessey were planning to have dinner at her parents’ home, Aurora and Jose Pabon of Lake Villa. Instead, the grandparents joined them at and enjoyed every minute with Isabelle, their first granddaughter and fourth grandchild.

Jose Pabon sat quietly with a most-pleased, easy smile and said, “I’m just mesmerized.”
