Students Named Delegates to Illini Girls State

A group of Lake Bluff girls will travel to Charleston in June to attend the week-long American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State to learn how the legislature works.

Seven girls from Lake Bluff will join more than 500 of the state's best and brightest girls at Eastern Illinois State University this summer for the 73rd season of the American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State, a political simulation project patterned after the State of Illinois, announced Lake Bluff American Legion Post 510, according to the Gazebo News.

The American Legion-sponsored delegates are Claire Borre, Grace Bower, Anika Exum, Katherine Kissel, Eden Krolopp, Lauren McCabe and Marisa Woodrum.

At Illini Girls State, delegates spend a week learning the duties of various public offices. They also have their own legislature to introduce, debate and pass simulated bills.
