Taking the Plunge: Special Olympics Benefits from Annual Event

Residents help support Lake Bluff Police Department's initiative.

Braving cold temperatures and likely just as cold water, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff residents and people from around the area participated in Saturday's  Polar Plunge into Lake Michigan off the shores of Sunrise Beach in Lake Bluff to benefit Illinois Special Olympics athletes .

Plungers were  bused to Sunrise Beach  and bused back to the Lake Bluff Park District building for the Post-Plunge party.

The Lake Bluff Police Department is a key sponsor of this event and last year raised approximately $76,000 to benefit the Illinois Special Olympics. The goal this year was to raise between $90,000 to $100,000.
