Visitation For Ellie Burns is Friday; Funeral on Saturday

Both will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest.

Visitation for Lake Forest High School student will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday (July 22) followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday (July 23). Both will be held at , 700 N. Sheridan Road, in Lake Forest.

Internment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.

Burns, 16, would have been a junior this fall. She was killed by a 75-foot tree, which fell on her while setting up a campsite about four miles east of the Turpin Meadow trailhead in the Teton Wilderness of Wyoming. Burns was on a trip with Wilderness Ventures.

Her obituary was released Wednesday afternoon. At the end of it, donations were denoted for the National Outdoor Leadership School, which takes people of all ages on remote wilderness expeditions, teaching technical outdoor skills, leadership, and environmental ethics, according to its website.

Elizabeth "Ellie" Murphy Burns, 16, of Lake Forest, died Monday, July 18, in a camping accident in the Grand Tetons. Beloved daughter of Sally and Michael Burns, loving sister of Katherine and Margaret, precious granddaughter of Patricia and Robert Burns of Lake Forest and Ann (the late Charles) Sawyer of Perrysburg, Ohio, treasured niece of Kathleen Burns, Maryellen (Jeffrey Ernst) Burns, John Burns, Maureen Burns (James) Walsh, Colleen Burns (Timothy) Sheerer, Robert (Jennifer) Burns, Susan Sawyer Kosling, Molly Sawyer (Kirk) Ludtke, Elizabeth Sawyer (David) Biederman and Charles (Melissa) Sawyer, Jr.
