Cannons Boom Out Tchaikovsky, Crowd Louder

As they do every year, cannons boomed out over the North Shore today ending Ravinia's annual tribute to Tchaikovsky by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Playing strains of the Marseillaise and the familiar 12 bars that set off the cannons celebrating a Russian military victory over the French, all eyes were on the roped off section of the lawn containing the cannons.

When it was over, the sound of the applause was louder than the noise of the artillery.
