Cathedra - English Choral Music

LAKE FOREST, IL – Cathedra, an acclaimed vocal ensemble based at Washington National Cathedral, will perform 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at The Church of the Holy Spirit as the church concludes its long-running Music in the Nave series.

The program, A Corner that will be Forever England, will include works by such classic composers as William Byrd as well as more modern compositions that reflect the interests of Michael McCarthy, National Cathedral’s music director and principal choirmaster.  McCarthy founded the London Oratory School Schola before his National Cathedral appointment in 2003.  Schola is recognized as one of London’s premier boys’ concert choirs, performing regularly on the London concert platform and in studio recordings.

The Cathedra ensemble was formed for Washington National Cathedral’s 2010 Lenten services and includes singers from the Washington, D.C., area and elsewhere.  The Episcopal seat of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, the cathedral has a mission to serve as a catalyst for reconciliation and interfaith dialogue.
