Henry Ives Cobb's Chicago: Architecture, Institutions and the Making of a Metropolis

The First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. Sheridan Road in Lake Forest, is the site of a program that is hosted by Lake Forest's Preservation Foundation and open to the public. The program will detail the accomplishments of Henry Ives Cobb. Cobb is known to be one of Chicago's most influential architects in the 1800s and early 1890s. Charles Sumner who designed the church, first worked in Henry Ives Cobb's firm. Nearby Durand Institute on nearby Lake Forest College campus along with five houses in the area were designed by Cobb. Henry Ives Cobb is also well known for laying out the University of Chicago and building the Newberry Library. Edward W. Wolner, architectural historian and author of the book, Henry Ives Cobb's Chicago: Architecture, Institutions and the Making of a Metropolis will present the program along with local historian, Art Miller in the sanctuary of the church followed by a reception and book signing at a private home. Reservation can be made by emailing LFPF at:info@LFPF.org or calling 847-234-1230.
