The Ragdale Foundation is an artist retreat, located on architect Howard Van Doren Shaw’s Arts and Crafts country estate in Lake Forest, Illinois.  Built in 1897, the Ragdale House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  In 1976, Shaw’s granddaughter Alice Judson Hayes transformed the family’s summer home into an artist-in-residence program.  Today, Ragdale is a nationally acclaimed, interdisciplinary artists’ community, welcoming approximately 200 writers and artists each year.
