French Music to be Featured at Gorton Community Center

"Sounds of Paris" concerts to highlight French musical favorites including pieces from Debussy, Bizet, Ravel and more.

Feel like you are traveling to France through concerts that showcase the "Sounds of Paris" at the Gorton Community Center of Lake Forest.

The concerts, presented by the Lisker Music Foundation, celebrate the music of France. The “Sounds of Paris” feature some of the most recognizable pieces including Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune, Sarasate’s tribute to George Bizet’s opera “Carmen” in Carmen Fantasy, and more works by significant French composers including Poulenc, Ravel, Faure and Gounod.

A highlight will be the String Quartet in F Major by Maurice Ravel.

This program will feature Chicago Tribune’s 2012 Person of the Year in Classical Music, George Lepauw, one of Chicago’s most brilliant young sopranos, Leila Bowie, internationally renowned violinists David Lisker and Bela Horvath, violist Cong Wu, and cellist Hiro Matsuo.

The concerts will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 6 and at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at the Gorton Center’s Baggett Auditorium at 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Tickets are $30 for general admission; $25 for students and seniors.
