  • Why Go?: Meet blogger Kate Gerlach, who was voted "One of the Blogs to Watch" by Bon Appetit magazine. She will review and discuss her favorite recipes from her favorite cookbooks. Have a delicious lunch based on Kate's favorite recipes at Southgate Cafe.
  • Pricing: Cookbook review is free; $35 for lunch.

  • Where/When: Thorndale Manor, Lake Forest; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday (May 6, 7 and 8).
  • Why Go?: Visit Thorndale Manor and view the work of over 43 interior and landscape designers. The manor has 25 rooms, including six bedrooms and five and 1/2 bathrooms. All of the original architecture has been maintained. The boutique, garden shop and cafe will be open. Continuous shuttle bus service from Laurel and North Western Avenue in Lake Forest will be running all day. Proceeds benefit the Infant Welfare Society Clinic.
  • Pricing: $30 per person in advance; $35 per person at the event.

  • Why Go?:Experience the musical mystery that pokes fun at the mysteries of Agatha Christie.

  • Why Go?:Help save Mellody Farm Nature Preserve from invasive plants by helping to cut, haul and burn brush piles. Then stay for a complimentary class on the emerald ash borer and learn how to grow a greener garden with native plants and trees .
