Make this a weekend to appreciate the arts. Spend some time viewing the work of local student artists, then check out some of the most amazing life like dinosaur art in the country.

Take in a show or two and enjoy singing and top notch acting, all just a short drive away. Don’t forget to include nature’s most beautiful creations to round out your art appreciation weekend!

Deer Path Art League Emerging Talent Art Exhibit

  • Where/When: Deer Path Art League Gallery at the Gorton Community Center. Monday through Friday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why Go:  You and your kids get the opportunity to view the work of some of the most talented young artists in the community. It’s a great way to support the artists and to help your children develop an appreciation for art.
  • Pricing: Free.

 

Paleoart Exhibit

  • Where/When: Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda, open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 1-4:30 p.m. Sunday.
  • Why Go: Life-like dinosaurs and a state of the art hologram are sure to mesmerize the entire family. The perfect mix of education and entertainment.
  • Pricing: Adults $6, ages 4-17  $2.50, ages 18 -25 and seniors age 55 and up $3, no charge for children age 3 and under and museum members.

  • Where/When: Middlefork Farms, open Friday and Saturday (March 25-26), 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., noon-4 p.m. Sunday (March 27).
  • Why Go:  There are over 150 resident animals at the center. See live birds of prey, the venomous Rhinoceros Viper of Africa, the Crocodile Monitor Lizard of New Guinea, and much more. It’s the next best thing to spending spring break in an exotic locale!
  • Pricing:  Free.

 

 Imagination Movers Live

  • Where/When: Rosemont Theatre, 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday (March 26).
  • Why Go: Disney’s Imagination Movers will get the entire family grooving to New-Orleans based rock music that’s appropriate for all ages. Nina and Warehouse Mouse will make a special appearance.
  • Pricing: Tickets from $13 to $123.

 

How Can You Run with a Shell on Your Back? http://www.marriotttheatre.com/ 

  • Where/When:  Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre, 10 a.m. Saturday (March 26).                                         
  • Why Go:  A charming children’s musical that is based on several of Aesop’s fables. Children will learn about the gift of creativity and imagination through the experiences of six students who spend detention in the school library with a quirky substitute teacher. 
  • Pricing:  $16 per ticket.
