The Academy at Citadel Theatre Hires New Education Director

Cummings has directed, acted for more than a decade.

Christine Cummings has been hired as the new education director by The Academy at (A.C.T.) in Lake Forest.

“We are thrilled to have Christine on board with us,” said Citadel’s Artistic Director Scott Phelps. “Her extensive experience and enthusiasm for theatre arts make her ideal for this position.”

Cummings, who started June 6, has been a professional theatre artist for more than 10 years, performing, directing and teaching in Chicago and Central Illinois.  She earned her bachelor's degree in acting from California State-Fullerton and an master's in acting from Illinois State.

Originally from Southern California, Cummings has performed in and directed more than 50 plays. Cummings teaches acting and dramatic literature at Illinois Wesleyan and will also teach voice and diction at Dominican University and College of Dupage this fall.

Citadel runs a year round performing arts program that offers a variety of acting classes for children and adults, including musical theatre, acting for stage and adult actors stretch, to name a few.

Last year they introduced a Young Ensemble (YE) program that is designed for advanced students who are interested in the next level of their training.  The YE program, which requires an audition or invitation for entry, follows a conservatory style and explores such topics as improvisation, stage combat, Shakespeare and more.

In addition, for the past two years, A.C.T has worked with Lake Forest District 67’s Brainstormers, assisting the after-school performance program in their presentations of Aladdin and Jungle Book.
