Bernie's Book Bank Earns Sun Shine Project Nomination

Grant program supports youth in education, art and civic engagement.

Since its founding less than two years ago, Bernie’s Book Bank has collected, processed and distributed more than 345,000 books to at-risk children in the Chicagoland area.

Today, children in more than 55 schools receive bags of quality, donated children’s books from Bernie’s Book Bank at least twice a year.

is familiar to residents of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff.  Virtually all local elementary schools have conducted book collections to support the organization, and the Bernie’s Book Bank warehouse and processing center is located in Lake Forest.

This month, Bernie’s Book Bank has been recognized as a nominee for the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust Sun Shine Project, a grant program that supports youth in education, art and civic engagement.

The Sun Shine Project grants will be awarded to organizations that receive the most number of votes and support. Voting is open through Sunday (Oct. 9) to determine which nominee will receive a portion of the $500,000 in available grants. Once the votes are collected, the Sun-Times Charity Trust will select the grant winners and announce the results.
