How did the business come to be?
Sam worked at a startup for 15 years before declining the decision to move to New York City after the company’s buyout by the New York Stock Exchange. Deciding to stay in Lake Forest with his wife and 10-year-old child, Long was faced with unemployment. Sam’s wife, Sarah, recently retired from a career as a flight-attendant, and the couple used the opportunity as a new start. Sam Long took over ComForcare Senior Services in March 2013 after the previous owner retired.

What is your business best known for?

Providing quality caregivers to aging loved-ones who wish to live independently in their own homes.

How did you choose the area you did for your business?

Having experienced first-hand the struggles that come with caring for an aging or sick loved one when his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Sam began looking into in-home care businesses. Although he lives hundreds of miles away, Sam is at ease because his mother now has an in-home caregiver. In opening their own senior care business, the Longs wanted to ensure that everyone in the Lake County area would receive the same resources available to them. And with the majority of seniors preferring to age in their own homes, Sam and Sarah knew in-home care services would be in high demand—since opening earlier this year, their business increased 25 percent of its growth revenue.  

What is something most people don’t know about your business?

His business services the North Shore areas, including Evanston, Northbrook, Winnetka, Niles, and Morton Grove. The Longs have lived in Lake Forest for over a decade. Before that, lived in the city and moved to suburbs to raise their child.
