Cubby Bear North in Lincolnshire has kicked off the new year by closing its doors.

Its marquee, which typically promotes upcoming band performances, simply reads “Closed.” Its doors display messages declaring, “Closed. Happy New Year.”

The longtime restaurant and band venue on Milwaukee Avenue hosted a New Year’s Eve bash. A promotion of that event was the last Tweet sent out by the business. Its Facebook page has been deactivated.

A link to Cubby Bear North on the Chicago Cubby Bear website redirects visitors back to the Chicago page.

No one answered the phone Friday afternoon at the Lincolnshire location, where the number remains in service. An employee reached at Cubby Bear’s Chicago location said the Lincolnshire restaurant closed Dec. 31 and “as far as I know” it is not reopening.

She directed further inquiries to Cubby Bear’s real estate management company, which could not immediately provide information.

Another business Obama'ed; stay tuned many more to come!
Gigi January 10, 2014 at 07:00 PM
What does this have to do with Obama? Have you ever been to the Cubby Bear North? It hasn't been crowded for years. I am willing to bet this closure has been in the works for quite a wile.
Vicky Kujawa January 10, 2014 at 07:13 PM
The economy and the job market have been swirling down the commode ever since that idiot has been in office.
Vicky Kujawa January 10, 2014 at 07:14 PM
Obama could screw up a one-man parade.
Gigi January 10, 2014 at 08:54 PM
Whatever. That place has been going down the tubes forever. There are so many bars/restaurants in the area I don't know how they all survive. Blaming President Obama for the closure of the Cubby Bear is a real stretch considering no one has any facts about the closure. Could be a variety of reasons. By the way, nice name calling. Real mature.
Vicky Kujawa January 10, 2014 at 09:07 PM
As long as foolish people keep defending our moron-in-chief we will keep on seeing more and more empty storefronts. Jobs are overrated; anyway. "Whatever"!
Gigi January 10, 2014 at 09:13 PM
I just think there is more to this story. I respect the office of our president no matter who is in that office.
Nancie D January 11, 2014 at 08:12 PM
How naive are you "no matter who is in that office"??? People like you are the reason people like him get elected
Gigi January 11, 2014 at 08:37 PM
I'm not naive at all. What exactly do you mean "people like me"? You don't even know me. It's closed minded people like you that are ruining this country. You people have managed to turn an article about a restaurant closing into a political debate. Sad. Really sad. It's no wonder congress doesn't get anything done. I'm done here. Sorry about the Cubby Bear closing. It's a shame that they couldn't make it.

My guess is that Vicky rarely if ever set foot in the Cubby Bear. If she had,, she would know it was not Obamacare or any other government program. It was the triple threat of crummy atmosphere, mediocre food and bad service that did them in. Anything else is just a radical conspiracy theory.
Vicky Kujawa January 12, 2014 at 03:16 AM
Lots of places are going out of business because they just can't make it anymore between the insane taxes here and business being down due to the terrible economy and high unemployment. Obamacare is a total failure, too. Obutthole OWNS it all! Be sure to vote Dumbocrat again......duhhhh
LJ Gibbs January 12, 2014 at 11:51 AM
Sorry to see you go, Gigi. The Patch could use a few more rational people posting. Most of us ignore the usual suspects who frequently post their illogical, meaningless diatribes riddled with name calling and online bullying that clearly show their level of intelligence.
Vicky Kujawa January 12, 2014 at 12:19 PM
For more rational thinking, see Patch article 'People Leaving Illinois in Droves'. :)
Gary January 13, 2014 at 10:45 AM
Let's approach this logically. Who is closer to the truth? Vicky, who is blaming the Cubby Bear closing on the higher taxes and inhospitable business environment caused by one-party rule in Illinois; or the Gigi-Gibbs team who blame all our problems on those who dare to speak up about it? Let's put it another way. Is our problem too much free speech, or too much big government? Perhaps some of our local business and economic gurus can compare the relationship between free speech and business closings to the relationship between big government and business closings. Which one has a tighter correlation.
Gigi January 13, 2014 at 11:16 AM
I was mearly trying to look at this situation from all angles. Can the Cubby Bear be closing due to the economy, in the sense that people do not have the extra cash to eat out? Sure. Can the Cubby Bear be closing due to poor management or miss use of funds? Sure. How about high rent (I don't know if they own the building/property or not) How about crummy food or bad service. Sure. cold be bad entertainment. There cold be many factors at work here. I have been to the Cubby Bear North and it never seemed crowded. They often had bands, which are very expensive to hire. That place is large and I am sure has huge overhead to run it. How much did Viper Alley opening across the street hurt them? Maybe they just want to concentrate on the venue in Wrigleyville. Look at all the factors, not just one. Thanks for the support LJ Gibbs.

"It's closed minded people like you who are ruining this country." -- Gigi to Vicky. You said it, now back it up. Please explain how Vicky's posts on this web site helped shut down the Cubby Bear.
Gigi January 13, 2014 at 12:01 PM
Seriously? Vicky's posts did not shut down the Cubby Bear. She blamed President Obama and the economy as the only factor in it's closing. I feel that there are many factors in their decision to close. People with such closed minds, who refuse to look at things from different angles are ruining this country. That's my opinion and I do not need to justify it to you. Have a nice life.
Gary January 13, 2014 at 12:36 PM
Let's say the closing was 80% due to normal competitive forces, and 20% due to the bad economy. Let's go further and say that Vicky refuses to acknowledge the 80% and only focuses on the 20%. Wouldn't the country be a better place if Vicky succeeded in fixing 20% of the problem even though it wouldn't have saved the Cubby Bear? Vicky's focused on the part of the problem we can fix, and you are focused on shutting her down. Which one of you is actually ruining this country?
LJ Gibbs January 13, 2014 at 02:19 PM
No one is trying to shut anyone down, Gary. You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are not entitled to your own facts.
Gary January 13, 2014 at 02:59 PM
"Most of us ignore the usual suspects who frequently post their illogical, meaningless diatribes riddled with name calling and online bullying that clearly show their level of intelligence. " --Gibbs "It's closed minded people like you that are ruining this country." --Gigi I interpret those comments as insults and a clear attempt to suppress Vicky's views through online bullying. Why don't you try rational persuasion instead of condescension?
Gary January 13, 2014 at 03:23 PM
Let me show you how this is done. To win this debate all either of you have to do is copy and paste this into your own post: " Vicky, I don't know what economy you're talking about, but since Obama took office the economy has been booming. Unemployment is 5 percent, more people are working than ever before, real wages are up across the board, and the country is more competitive internationally. ObamaCare has lowered health care costs by $2,500 per family per year and everyone was able to keep their plans and doctors just as promised. We closed Guantanamo, pulled out of all those wars of choice, the Muslim threat has backed off and we are universally loved and respected around the world just as predicted. Patriot Act has been repealed and the government is no longer violating our privacy without due process on a daily basis. We have the most transparent and ethical administration in living memory. Everything is looking up and getting better. Happy days are truly here again, and I hope you can find a way to make it work for you Vicky."
Vicky Kujawa January 13, 2014 at 03:33 PM
The sad facts about the economy scream for themselves. Thanks for the laugh, Gary!
