Internal medicine physicians Larry Kaskel, MD, Monika McLain, MD, and Lisa Newman, MD, of Deerpath Primary Care have joined Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group.
The three physicians will continue to practice at their current office location on the Hollister campus in Libertyville and remain attending physicians at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. In addition, Deerpath Primary Care’s nurse practitioner, physician assistants, physical therapists, chiropractor and psychologist will remain on staff with the practice.
Dr. Kaskel received his medical degree from Rush Medical Center in Chicago in 1988. He completed an internship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago in 1989 and completed a residency in internal medicine from Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in 1991. He is dual board certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology.
Dr. Kaskel founded Deerpath Primary Care in 2001 and established the Heart Attack Prevention Center within the practice in 2005, where he served as medical director. He was a staff physician at Deerpath Medical Associates from 1999 to 2001 and has been an attending physician at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital since 1999. Prior to that he served as an attending physician at West Suburban Hospital, Blue Island Hospital, Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center and Vencor Hospital, where he was vice president of the medical staff for one year. Dr. Kaskel has been a previous host of ReachMD on XM Satellite Radio.
“We are very excited to join Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and marry the excellence of Northwestern Medicine with the focused, individualized treatment and care that we give to every patient,” said Dr. Kaskel. “Our practice philosophy is to educate patients and work closely with them to create healthier lifestyles that will help them avoid disease.”
Dr. McLain is board certified in internal medicine and received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1988. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1991. Dr. McLain co-founded Deerpath Primary Care in 2002 with Dr. Kaskel and was a staff physician at Deerpath Medical Associates from 1995 to 2001. She has been a member of the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital medical staff since 1991.
“Our practice has a program called Lifechange 180 that works with patients to educate them on how to eat healthy to reduce their risk of heart attack and diabetes,” said Dr. McLain. “It is extremely rewarding for us to care for several members and sometimes multiple generations of one family, which helps us better understand their risk factors and make a positive impact on their health.”
Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Newman received her medical degree from Rush Medical College in 1995 and completed a residency at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in 1998. She has been an attending physician at Deerpath Primary Care since 2004. Previously she served as an attending physician in the department of family medicine at West Suburban Hospital and a faculty member at West Suburban Hospital Family Practice Residency Program.
“It is exciting to join the broad network of primary care physicians and internal medicine specialists within the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and to bring this expertise to benefit our patients,” said Dr. Newman. “Our focus will continue to be on providing the highest quality, individualized care for our patients.”
