Helanders Moving Just Up The Street in Lake Forest

Will vacate Market Square location for Westminister Avenue in July.

will move its Lake Forest store to a new location on East Westminister Avenue beginning in July.

Helanders, 248 Market Square, has been a fixture in Lake Forest's Market Square for 63 years, according to owner Chuck Helander. The new location at 222 E. Westminister Ave., provides an opportunity to house its products all on one floor.

"It’s definitely bittersweet," Helander said. "It’s better for our customers, and more efficient for us. We think it is a smart move for our business."

Helanders was founded in 1922 as the Lake Forest Radio Shop by Chuck Helander’s grandfather, Axel Helander. Over the years, the business has moved a dozen times and has provided everything from appliances to office supplies and machines, printing and stationery, and contemporary home furniture.

“In recent years, we’ve essentially evolved to become a boutique stationery store with stationery, gifts, greeting cards and party supplies as the core of our business. The new Westminster Avenue location will allow us to expand our offerings in those areas,” Helander said.

Helander believes the move is in line to meet the "changing needs of his customers."

“We think the combination of our new space on Westminster, expanding our core business, and offering Helanders Hotline free delivery will help us continue to serve the Lake Forest and Lake Bluff communities for generations to come,” Helander said.

Helanders will also begin offering daily specials starting June 1 on its website, www.helanders.com.
