Lake Forest Gas Stations can Petition for Liquor License

Some think it's not fitting for Lake Forest, but gas stations will soon be selling alcohol.

The City of Lake Forest's ban on gas station alcohol sales has been lifted.

Until now, Highwood was the nearest community allowing gas stations to sell alcohol, according to a survey conducted by Lake Forest Police.

Council members approved revisions to the liquor code at Monday's meeting calling for gas stations to petition for a license, reported the Chicago Tribune.

There was also debate over how eliminating the ban could affect the character of the community and possibly impact the safety of its young people. The Tribune reported that a representative from a local drug and alcohol abuse prevention organization voiced concern for allowing alcohol sales at a Shell gas station frequented by students.

Tell us what you think of this decision. Do you welcome the convenience or do you think it will have a negative affect on the character of the community?
