New Business Offers Bubble Tea, Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt

Her business has been open for just over a week, but already Jereline Hur is impressed with the welcoming Libertyville community.

Hur and her husband, Steve, opened Yo Froot at 620 N. Milwaukee Ave., across from Casa Bonita, on May 10.

“I'm so glad I'm here,” said Hur. “The people are so nice.”

Yo Froot offers self-serve frozen yogurt with a variety of toppings. There also are Bubble Tea and bottles of water and soda.

“I've been enjoying frozen yogurt and bubble tea for a long time,” said Hur. She and her husband, who live in Glenview, decided to open their own business and selected Libertyville because it's “lively and vibrant.”

Yo Froot's frozen yogurt is a premium product that is certified by the National Yogurt Association. It has live and active cultures and is kosher-certified. There are 10 flavors of frozen yogurt at Yo Froot, including Very Strawberry, Tart (both original and pomegranate-raspberry), Chocolate, Alpine Vanilla, New York Cheesecake, Very Raspberry, Mango Tango, Cookies & Cream and Cake Batter.

Customers can have a single flavor, a blend of two side-by-side flavors or a mix of flavors from the various yogurt dispensers, Hur said. There are also lots of toppings — 40 in all — to choose from, including fresh fruit, coconut and various candies. The price is based on weight at 45 cents per ounce.

Yo Froot started serving Bubble Tea just this week. Described in her store as “a drink made with our original blend of tea and natural fruit,” Hur likens it to a smoothie. Created from her own recipe, Yo Froot's Bubble Tea contains 80 percent fruit and is “more refreshing than a smoothie,” Hur said. The Bubble Tea also contains chewy tapioca starch pearls.

“It's a refreshing drink with a little fun to it,” said Hur. Some of the Bubble Tea flavors are strawberry, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, peach and kiwi.

Hur said business has been good so far, with lots of people visiting during the opening weekend.

“The customers are eager to tell me about the history of Libertyville,” said Hur. “They're very open and friendly.”

Yo Froot is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
