Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society's Lego program teaches kids to dream—and build—big.

The answer to how Superman leaped skyscrapers in a single bound may have eluded us.

However, Adam Reed Tucker has allowed us to glimpse what it’s like to build one — if only on a smaller scale.

Last Saturday, the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society hosted a workshop called Reaching New Heights through Lego Design, which featured Tucker, a designer of architectural model kits for Lego.

In addition to hearing his insights as a Lego artist, aspiring architects (ages seven and up) got to build a model kit he designed of the Burj Khalifa, as well as bring their own Lego skyscraper designs for an architectural competition.

The contest was judged by Tucker and , a Lake Forest resident and the designer of the real-life Burj Khalifa (located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates). At 2,723 feet, the structure is the world’s tallest.

The workshop was held in conjunction with the Local Legends event set for today (Oct. 29) that will celebrate Smith's contributions to the field of architecure.

Tucker has created Lego interpretations of other landmark structures besides the Burj Khalifa. They include the White House, the Guggenheim Museum, and a 10-foot-tall replica of the John Hancock that sits near the latter’s Observation Deck elevators in downtown Chicago. Tucker has also produced models for clients all over the world, and his sculptures have been exhibited in museums throughout the country.
