For holiday travels
OSKA, 264 Market Square
Price: $$$

Find chic and comfortable styles for your holiday travels at OSKA, one of Market Square’s newest shops.

“Both the men and the women who shop with us tend to travel on a regular basis and they don't want to sacrifice being comfortable with looking good no matter where they go, even if it's just around the corner,” said Monique Ramos, owner.

Layering with light knits is the first step toward an eye-catching, warm and comfortable winter ensemble. “Our whole fall collection is based on layering lighter layers with knits and lightweight boiled wool and cashmere. We are known for our boiled wool pieces and we offer such a rich color palette that the combinations are endless,” Ramos said.

Add some scarves and clutches to personalize it, and don’t forget to grab one for Mom. “We have fantastic scarves and hats as well as yummy cashmere socks and throws which are easy gifts for anyone and forever appreciated.”

For holiday sparkle
J. McLaughlin, 261 Market Square
Price: $$$

Shine boldly with colors and prints that pop from J.McLaughlin. For this holiday season, “We’re now interpreting festive dress as more fun than formal,” said Kevin McLaughlin, creative director and co-founder of J. McLaughlin.

Take some inspiration from the slick Sixties. “Think Austin Powers at Princeton,” said McLaughlin. The company’s look is an “old school silhouette filtered through a psychedelic palette inject unmitigated cool into casual party clothes.” Instead of the traditional holiday red, go with a punchy magenta and neon hues.

To tone it down, pair over-the-top sequin pieces with basic pullovers. Try the J.McLaughlin Mimi Mock Turtle Neck ($168) and Vanessa Sequin Skirt ($198).

As a accessory or gift, "the grabfest for J.McLaughlin’s cult Kingston clutch continues. The sleekly retrained, unbreakable box bag heeds the call of the wild in zebra-print, purple or shiny black haircalf or lizard. A delicate gold chain offers the option to take it to the dance floor. Printed and solid pony hair ($185) and metallic ($175)."

For holiday town outings
Forest Bootery, 284 Market Square
Price: $$ - $$$

It’s boot season, and it can be tough to find a boot that looks sharp and stays warm. Forest Bootery has some ideas to save you from trying on every boot at the mall.

“Our store carries footwear from infants on up,” said Cara Garrison, co-owner. “Our mission is to carry something for everyone.”

For the perfect blend of fashion and function, Garrison recommends a classic ski boot that “isn’t just for the slopes.”  Garrison said that at $400, the Tecnica isn’t a shoe that everyone would spring for themselves, which makes it a great long-lasting gift idea.

“The Tecnica Skandia is a stylish boot that’s a must-have when you need to be warm and look sharp. Tuck in your leggings or tight denim,” Garrison said.

For more casual wear, lace-up boots are the hot trend this season. “Lace ups boots and shoes are the newest trend and The Blondo Raven is a perfect way to get the look and be sensible too!  Being warm and waterproof is ideal in the Midwest. Wear this one up under boot cut pants or wear it down and tuck your pants in,” she said.
