East Lake Academy Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

East Lake Academy students and staff celebrate Catholic Schools Week with a week full of activities, speakers, and competitions.

East Lake Academy students and staff celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a week full of activities, speakers, and competitions. The theme of this year’s Catholic Schools Week was “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards”. The week started with ELA’s annual Spelling Bee and CSW kickoff ceremony. Also, students and teachers decorated every classroom door throughout the school for the annual door decorating contest based on the CSW theme.

On Saturday and Sunday, ELA families met to celebrate Mass together at St. Patrick Parish in Lake Forest and spread the word about the differences found in Catholic education. On Monday, each class participated in a teacher swap, where each teacher taught in a different class for one period of the day. On Tuesday, the lower grade classes where visited by a seminarian and a consecrated woman who spoke to students about their call to the religious vocation, while middle school students listened to author and motivational speaker Pete Mockaitis. Tuesday ended with 4th through 8th grade students performing in Spanish Heritage Night for an audience of family and friends. Spanish Heritage Night is a great way for students to showcase all they have learned in Spanish, which is a core class at East Lake Academy starting in preschool.

On Wednesday, ELA hosted Bishop George Rassas as he celebrated an all-school Mass with students and staff. On Thursday, students participated together in groups in a “Know Your Catholic Faith” contest with members from each class from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Catholic Schools Week came to an end on Friday with an all-school pep rally. All ELA basketball team players were introduced and staff and students participated in a basketball game of knockout, another school favorite.
