On June 28, ownership of the NLFH CareCoach was signed over to RFUHS during a ceremony held at the Health System’s North Chicago location. NLFH officials Kimberly A. “The acquisition of the CareCoach is a wonderful opportunity for the Health System to expand its community outreach program, with an emphasis on disease prevention and health education,” Surridge said. “Our interprofessional team of primary care and specialty healthcare providers can perform a wide variety of medical screenings, and having our own mobile clinic allows them to bring that care to multiple locations throughout Lake County.”
In addition to providing screenings and health education to Lake County residents, the mobile health unit will also provide invaluable learning experiences for medical and health professions students from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS).

The students will have opportunities to travel to care sites and assist with performing health screenings under the supervision of the Health System’s licensed and board-certified physicians, as well as faculty members from RFUMS. Students from many of the university’s programs such as podiatry, physician assistant, and medicine, will learn and work in teams on the mobile unit, much as they do in the classroom at RFUMS, where interprofessional education begins on day one.
Health System administrators will be speaking with many local organizations, including those previously visited by the former CareCoach, over the next few months to determine a schedule of locations. The mobile health unit will be rebranded under the Rosalind Franklin University Health System, and is tentatively scheduled to return to operation in fall 2011.
