Lake Bluff's Sunrise Beach Remains Closed to Swimmers

High rain volume creates unsafe bacteria levels in lake water.

Lake Bluff's remains closed to swimmers for the second straight day, according to Dave Peterson, director of Facilities and Recreation Services for the Lake Bluff Park District.

According to the Chicago Park District website, "Due to heavy rains, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District opened locks on the Chicago River downtown and at Wilmette on July 23. When this occurs, a swim ban is in effect at all beaches until test results show low levels of bacteria in the water."

Residents can still use the beach, but are prohibited from going into the water.
