Lake County Under Flood Watch Through Friday Morning

Heavy rains could worsen already flooded areas.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Lake and surrounding Illinois counties through Friday morning (July 29).

Intense thunderstorm rainfall over the past several days has led to flash flooding in parts of Lake County. The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission has instituted a Green Flood Alert, meaning that current and forecast conditions may lead to flooding.

Storms are expected to develop in eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois this afternoon, which could produce rainfall rates of one to three inches of rain per hour. Areas along and north of Intestates 88 and 290 appear to have the greatest threat for receiving the heaviest rainfall.
