Schneider Draws Primary Opponent

Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) will have to deal with an opponent in the March 18 Democratic primary to secure his party’s nomination and a rematch of his 2012 general election victory over former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth).

Dold, Schneider and Arlene Hickory of Lake Bluff all filed nomination petitions by 5 p.m. Monday with the Illinois State Board of Elections to enter the March 18 contest to secure a place on the ballot to represent the 10th Congressional District in the Nov. 4 general election. Dold is the lone Republican.

Schneider has been actively fundraising all year taking in more than $1.1 million with $768,910 in the bank as of Sept. 30, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Dold started collecting money soon after announcing his candidacy in May, taking in $865,974 with $819,153 in the bank, according to his FEC report. Hickory has not filed a statement of candidacy nor reported raising any money with the FEC.

In races across Lake County, Democrats John Krempotic of North Chicago and Jason Patt of Zion will compete in March for the right to run against incumbent Sheriff Mark Curran of Libertyville, a Republican, in November according to the Lake County Clerk’s website.

Former Lake County Board President David Stolman (R-Buffalo Grove) will run against Jeralyn Atleson of Mundelein for the Republican nomination for Lake County treasurer in the primary. The winner will face Democrat Cynthia Plouche of Highland Park in the Nov. 4 general election.

In the contest to replace retiring Lake County Clerk Willard Helander, Janet Kilkelly of Waukegan is the one Democrat to file nominating petitions. She will compete against Republican Carla Wyckoff of Lake Forest for the job.

In area races for the Illinois General Assembly, there will be no primary contests, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections website. State Sen. Terry Link (D-Waukegan) will run against Republican Don Wilson of Gurnee in the 30th District.

In the 58th State House District, state Rep. Scott Drury (D-Highwood) will compete in November against Mark Neerhoff of Lake Forest while state Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) will face Leslie Munger of Lincolnshire. State Rep. Sam Yingling (D-Grayslake) will defend his seat against Rod Drobinski of Wauconda.
