A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS

Bowen Park Theatre Company makes history come alive with Robert Bolt’s powerful drama A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, a portrait of Sir Thomas More in his last years as Lord Chancellor during the reign of Henry VIII. When Henry fails to obtain Papal approval for a divorce from Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boleyn, the King requires his subjects to swear an oath of allegiance in support of Henry’s divorce and of Henry’s becoming the spiritual as well as temporal leader of England. Sir Thomas is caught between his loyalties to his country and King, his family and friends, and his conscience. These loyalties create the dramatic conflict for More, who is a "man for all seasons” because while the play enacts the 16th-century political intrigue central to the historical conflict between Henry and More; the play also tells a gripping story and creates a variety of intriguing characters whose concerns, attitudes, and values apply as much to today’s society as they do to Henry VIII’s Tudor England. Thus, the play examines the consequences of the choices all people make as they define their priorities in life.

This moving and inspirational play is directed by Barbara Anderson and stars Joseph Jefferson Award-winning Chicago actor Henry Michael Odum as Sir Thomas More, and performs September 27 to October 13. Curtain on Fridays and Saturdays is at 8 PM;  Curtain on Sundays, October 6 and 13 is at 3 PM.  For tickets and more information, call Waukegan's Jack Benny Center at 847-360-4740.
