A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS Performance

Bowen Park Theatre Company makes history come alive with Robert Bolt’s moving drama, A Man for All Seasons, a portrait of Sir Thomas More in his last years as Lord Chancellor during the reign of Henry VIII. When Henry fails to obtain Papal approval for a divorce from Catherine of Aragon to marry Anne Boleyn, the King requires his subjects to swear an oath of allegiance in support of Henry’s divorce and of Henry’s becoming the spiritual as well as temporal leader of England. Sir Thomas is caught between his loyalties to his country and King, his family and friends, and his conscience. These loyalties create the dramatic conflict for More, who is a "man for all seasons” because while the play enacts the 16th-century political intrigue central to the historical conflict between Henry and More; the play also tells a gripping story and creates a variety of intriguing characters whose concerns, attitudes, and values apply as much to today’s society as they do to Henry VIII’s Tudor England as it examines the consequences of the choices all people make as they define their priorities in life.

Performances take place at the Dr. Lynn Schornick Theatre, located in the Jack Benny Center for the Arts, 39 Jack Benny Drive-Bowen Park, Waukegan IL .
