"Chatting with the Tea Party" Presentation on Sunday, April 27
Ragdale Playwright Featured at Clockwise Theatre’s Great New Plays Reading Series
“Chatting With the Tea Party,” written by New York-based playwright and Ragdale alum, Rich Orloff, will be featured in the Great New Plays Reading Series at Clockwise Theater on Sunday, April 27 at 3pm.
Based on interviews with Tea Party leaders from around the country, the play seeks to answer the question, “Who are these people?” and concludes that “Beyond politics, there are people.”
For a year Rich Orloff attended Tea Party meetings and events in cities large and small in every region of the country. The piece shapes the highlights of over 63 hours of interviews to create a play that strives to go beyond sound bites and stereotypes to show the people behind the opinions.
In a journey that's at times disturbing, humorous, moving, and always thought-provoking -- as the playwright discovers not only how and if he can affect the people he meets, but also how they may be influencing him. Everything the interviewees say in the play come directly from the interviews.
A talk-back with the playwright follows the reading.
