Garden Goodness (Session B) - Kids' Cooking Class
Summer gardens overflow with vibrant, flavorful fruits and vegetables. This hands-on series for students ages 10 to 13 teaches basic cooking skills using fresh seasonal ingredients. Activities include reading recipes, organizing and measuring ingredients, following kitchen safety, mixing a batter, making mayonnaise, making jam, whisking, using a food processor, and simple pan-cooking.
Monday - “Spice Up Summer”: Young chefs will safely sharpen their knife skills as they learn and practice Julienne, Supreme, and Dice cuts. They’ll prepare zesty Jicama & Orange Salad, a Roux-thickened Cheese Sauce for Mac, Chili & Cheese, and Cinnamon Poached Pineapple. Taste buds will shout “Ole!”
Tuesday - “Preserve Summer”: Quick seasonal canning captures garden produce at its flavorful peak for year-round enjoyment. Students will prepare Peach & Honey Jam, and Garlicky Pickled Wax Beans, plus a delicious pan of sweet, moist Cornbread.
