Monthly Summer Tours of Ragdale Artists' Retreat Begin in June

Ragdale, the nationally acclaimed artists’
retreat offers monthly, docent-led tours from June – September for individuals
and groups.  Located on the former
country estate of Arts and Crafts architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, a Ragdale
tour includes: the restored Ragdale House, visual artist studios, exquisite
gardens, an introduction to the Shaw family history and the artists’ residency
program that serves over 150 artists and authors each year.

The public
tours take place Saturdays at 10am on June 7, July 19, August 23 and September 20. Group tours for 10 or more must be arranged in advance, preferably on Fridays at 2pm.  Remaining available group dates are July 18 and
October 24.

These
tours are rare opportunities to see behind-the-scenes at an artists’ residency,
typically closed to the public. Visitors can experience the five-acre site
which includes two historic homes, artist studios, gardens and vistas
of 50 acres of virgin prairie.  The
Ragdale House, originally built in 1897, is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.

There is limited parking available in the lot at 1230 North Green Bay Road in Lake Forest. The tours begin at the front porch of the Ragdale House. Admission is $10/person.

Advance reservations are recommended for
individuals and required for groups of 10 or
more.  For reservations, visit www.ragdale.org, call 847.234.1063 or email: info@ragdale.org
