The Ragdale Foundation is an artist retreat, located on Arts and Crafts architect Howard Van Doren
Shaw’s country estate in Lake Forest. Built in 1897, the Radgale House is listed on the National Register
of Historic Places. In 1976, Shaw’s granddaughter, Alice Judson Hayes transformed the family’s summer
home into an artist-in-residence program to provide time and space for artists to do important work.
Today, Ragdale is a nationally acclaimed, interdisciplinary artist community, welcoming approximately
150 writers and artists each year. For more information, visit www.ragdale.org
