Lake Forest Preservation Foundation Hosts Garden Folly Wine Stroll

Please join the Lake Forest
Preservation Foundation for a true summer delight when the organization hosts
its Friday, August 24th wine
stroll from 5:30-7:30pm .
  The
location of this event is so fitting for a summer evening because it is a
“garden folly” or summerhouse located in Lake Forest.  This garden retreat, designed by architects
Liederbach and Graham, is an accurate replica of the 18th century
Derby summerhouse in Danvers, Massachusetts, built in 1793.  The only other replica is Berkeley Villa in Newport, Rhode Island,
the 1910 summer home of Derby’s great, great granddaughter. The Lake Forest Garden
Folly was the recipient of one of the 2012 Preservation Foundation awards,
demonstrating a commitment to excellence in the preservation of Lake Forest’s
architectural heritage.

Completed in 2011, the Lake Forest Garden Folly
overlooks the garden pool. Art Miller, local historian and Lake Forest
Preservation Foundation board member, says that the structure is “ a beautiful
re-creation of the classic garden pavilion, worthy of comparison with the best
on its scale in England or France.”  He
adds, “This folly is a terrific addition to the community and shows the
relevance today of classic design.”
