Lake Forest, Lake Bluff Plan Veterans Day Events

Both towns will honors veterans on Nov. 11.

Lake Forest and Lake Bluff will both hold public Veteran Day ceremonies Monday morning.

Lake Forest

Lake Forest’s event will run from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at Lake Forest High School.

U.S. Marine Corps Gunner Charles Major will speak at the event. A Chief Warrant Officer 4 who recently retired after 28 years of service, Major will be hosted by McKinlock Post 264.

Lake Bluff

Lake Bluff’s ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on the Village Green.

State Sen. Julie Morrison and State Rep. Scott Drury will read the names of local casualties. U.S. Army Col. Neal F. McIntyre will be the guest speaker at the ceremony, which will be conducted by the Lake Bluff American Legion Post 510.

The event will also include a flag ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 42, a Lake Forest High School band performance, a rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” by Lake Forest High School student Grant Papastefan and “Taps” performed by Lake Forest High School buglers Timothy Walther and Thomas Balk.

Lake Bluff Middle School Student Council President Ursela Nugent will deliver the Gettysburg Address. 

The Marine Rifle Squad from Marine Air Control Group #48, Great Lakes, lead by SNCOIC Gy/Sgt Escobar, will perform rifle volleys. A wreath will be laid at the Veterans Memorial.

Refreshments will be served in the Community Room of the Lake Bluff Public Safety Building after the program.

The Lake Bluff History Museum is also displaying of military items from Lake Bluff residents.
