IT HELPS TO BE A MEMBER

A FRIENDSHIP FORCE CONTACT IN COSTA RICA

THE FRIENDSHIP FORCE:  It Helps to be a Member

My husband and I recently spent a week on vacation in Costa Rica.  Like thousands of Americans, we stayed at an American-style hotel and did typical tourist things.  But one day was really special.

As members of the Friendship Force of Northern Illinois, we are part of a world-wide organization.  My husband Bob found that there is a Friendship Force chapter in the city of Liberia, near where we were staying.  He sent an email to the club president, asking if any of their members could meet us and spend some time with us.  So one day we were picked up at our hotel by the club president and taken to a cattle farm owned by another member of the club.  We were shown some of the cattle and the owner explained how he markets them and why one breed is different from another.  Then he said we would have a wild adventure.

We boarded a small ATV, which he drove up and down hills, though a stream, over rocks and through twisting trails.  We finally arrived at a spot that had a natural warm spring adjacent to a small, cool river.  We had a picnic lunch and soaked in the spring.  Then we had another wild ride to get back.  During the day, we discussed many aspects of the Costa Rican lifestyle and customs, and felt we had made some wonderful new friends.
