USA Paratriathlon National Championships

Over Memorial Day weekend, some of the greatest paratriathletes throughout the country participated in the USA Paratriathlon National Championships.

This competition, held in Texas, started at Lake Lady Bird with a 750-meter swim, followed by a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run. The events took the athletes through the University of Texas and downtown before concluding back at the lake.

National titles were awarded in six different divisions. Division winners were rewarded with spots on the USA Paratriathlon National Team. The top performers from the race also qualified for spots on Team USA to participate in October at the ITU Paratriathlon World Championships in New Zealand. 

Notable competitors from the Chicagoland area included Melissa Stockwell, (military) who took first place for the Tri 2; Hailey Danisewicz took second place for the Tri 2,; Diana Helt collected second place in the Tri 1, and Mary Kate Callahan nabbed third place in the Tri 1.
