Catholic Charities of Lake County Raises over $265,000 at 24th Annual Art of Caring Benefit

Over 200 guests attended the 24th annual Art of Caring, historically the largest fundraiser for Catholic Charities of Lake County, on May 18 at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park.  Hosts included the Women’s Board of Catholic Charities, Lake County Services, with President Debby Lambert of Lake Forest, Honorary Chair Couple Quinn and Debbie Stepan of Lake Bluff and Monsignor Michael Boland, President of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Event co-chairs Jan Zukowski Elwart and Sue O’Callaghan, of Lake Forest, stated that over $265,000 was raised during the event, supporting Catholic Charities programs and services for the needy in Lake County.

Guests participated in e-bidding for over 100 silent auction items; a live auction with packages for Cabo San Lucas, Aspen, Monday Night Bears game with private jet charter transportation, Chicago Air and Water Show, BMW Championship, Michigan State vs. Notre Dame football with private transportation, Chicago Bears VIP Experience, and 2014 Super Bowl in New York; and raised even more funds during a paddle raise, all while enjoying cocktails and dinner.

The grand raffle prize was a winner’s choice of packages to Paris, Rome/Florence or Barbados.  This year’s winners were Jim and Sharon Lentino, of Libertyville.

Vera Purcell, of Lake Forest, received the Irene Leahy McMahon Award, presented by Ellie Clarke, also of Lake Forest, one of the founding members of the Women’s Board and 2003 award recipient.  The award acknowledges a member who has given unselfishly of her time and talent to the activities of the Women’s Board on behalf of Catholic Charities.

The 2013 Art of Caring Committee included Jeanne Burke, Julie Carter, Jean Eischeid, Claire Frye, Melissa Franklin, Millie Hall, Jane Hinton-Kedo, Cathy Lynch, Michele Medzigian, Barbara Marinelli, Mary Ellen Mason, Jean Morse, Christine Moulder, Mary Ann Pederson, Vera Purcell, Lori Rozdolsky and Alli Walsh, all of Lake Forest; Patty Charhut, Vicky Kearney, and, Sally Stoll , all of Lake Bluff; Julie Greene of Libertyville; Kathy Brosmith of Mundelein; and Fran Lizzo Salvi of Lincolnwood.
