Addict?

This Grandma is an addict of the Internet! I confess!

Okay, I am going to just steel myself and face this thing straight on.

Am I or am I not addicted to checking out the latest on Facebook ridiculously early in the morning?

On a typical morning I watch ” Morning Joe” on TV and enjoy breakfast in front of the screen. After finishing off that second cup of coffee, no matter how I fight it, I feel as though a magnet were pulling me to my computer.

Oh sure, I know I should dress and shower and otherwise be ready for the events of the day. I know I should “get it together”to create the “got it together” grandma person that I hope to project to the world at large.

And now that I’m into my 80′s, this “getting it together”  is a major project!  And major projects take time…. But…but… what if I miss an intriguing remark or photo streaming across my Facebook page? A little peek won’t take but a minute…

Hey, hey…there we are…teenage granddaughter and I, just as we were yesterday at my son’s home, she looking loving and lovely as she leans over and gives me a gentle hug. As for me, I have on my usual proud as punch Grandma look.

Oh, and in the next paragraph there are my two youngest grand kids. Bright eyed and handsome, they look like poster boys for the Great American Family. What winning smiles! I couldn’t have missed this!

And then there are the other three children and the ten equally photogenic grand kids! And the nieces and nephews that I hadn’t seen much of for years! Such fun to see their pictures from graduations and parties and new jobs.

It’s so interesting too to exchange comments with old friends and people who share common interests. As a friend commented to me the other day, the Internet Revolution will probably have even greater impact on us than the Industrial Revolution, and I love feeling that I am a part of it.

So there you have it. This pull to the computer happens far too often not to detect there is a recognizable behavior pattern here.

The truth emerges. The verdict is out. This Grandma is an addict of the Internet!  I confess! It’s an addiction I’ve grown to love!
