The Opening

The same ol’show, I love it so, I hurry to my seat

Of course my hurry’s slower now, no longer firm and fleet

So once I’m there, I love my chair, it’s comfortable and firm

I stare into the inky air to silently affirm

The plushy velvet of the night will melt and fall away

And I’ll not miss a bit of it as darkness fades to day

The gaslight glows amidst the leaves who cluster round the light

Who throw its glow to start the show in chorus of delight

A bit of blue seeps into sky, the gaslight starts to fade

And I applaud the opening of daylight’s cavalcade.
