Are Churches and Local Businesses Concerned About Concealed Guns in Their Establishments?

With recent legislation regarding guns, assault weapons, concealed carry, background checks, etc. where exactly do things stand in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff?  Are businesses comfortable with the new laws, and do we feel our families and children are safe? Do churches and local small businesses want to deal with people entering their establishments and carrying concealed guns? Do people want to know if other patrons are carrying? Will it affect their decisions? What are the requirements for training and permits? What is allowed where? Are there shortcomings?

The League of Women Voters - Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area is hosting a panel discussion on Wed. Oct. 16, 7:00 p.m. at Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest.  Scott Drury, State Representative - 58th District; James Held, Lake Forest Chief of Police; and Nicole Chen from Moms Demand Action will address many of the questions surrounding recent gun legislation.

"Now that some of the excitement and heated debate has died down, this is a good time for residents of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff to learn about the changes in gun laws and possible ramifications. Sometimes in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff we feel protected from the rest of the world. However, we recently were surprised when a man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon at the BMW Championship at Conway Farms." says Jane Partridge, Co-President of the League of Women Voters - Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Area. "This program will help enlighten residents and answer their questions."
