New York Times Article Boasts Effectiveness of Hearing Loops

View yesterday's front page article of the New York Times on Hearing Loops focusing on how the world famous composer, Richard Einhorn, heard his own music at the Kennedy Center via a Hearing Loop.

Richard Einhorn, world famous composer, was interviewed about his experience at the Kennedy Center listening to his own music via a hearing loop.

The article was the most emailed and downloaded in the newspaper yesterday.  As he related, "live music was perfectly clear, perfectly clean and incredibly rich."  

Lake County has 35 hearing loops installed. Local hearing loops include the , the , the Deerfield Presbyterian Church, the Patty Turner Senior Center in Deerfield, and the Vail Room at Lake Forest Place.

The Roman Catholic Church in Deerfield was measured last week. All church denominations have been represented with the first synagogue, Congregation Solel, being looped last month.

Hearing loss is an epidemic in the U.S.  It is the most common birth condition, 16 percent of all children have hearing impairment, 20 percent of all teens have hearing loss, and one-third of those over 60 do not have normal hearing.

Research from the National Institute on Aging from Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania suggests that those over 60 are much more at risk to develop dementia if they have hearing loss.  

Hearing loops are a great means of providing audibility in all venues, and it is hoped that loops will play a part in reducing this risk.
