Who has or will be picking up a Mega Millions ticket today?

With the Mega Millions jackpot currently at a record high of $540 milion, the lottery craze has hit and many have been picking up a ticket or several tickets with the hopes of winning big in Friday's drawing.

Many will be stopping by convenience stores today and tomorrow and spending anywhere from a couple bucks to a couple hundred on Mega Millions tickets. For many who buy in just when the stakes are big, it's all for fun. 

Regardless of the reasons behind buying a ticket, the chances are still very slim of winning. In fact, on AOL Finance article referred to the chances of winning as statistically impossible.

The odds that someone will win the California Super Lotto Jackpot are 1 in 18 million, according to AOL Finance. By comparison, a person is more likely to get a flesh-eating bacteria — 1 in 1 million; die in a plane crash — 1 in 355,318; or be struck by lightning — 1 in 10,000, according to the AOL Finance article.

Bloomberg went so far as creating a "sucker index," which looks state-by-state at the amount of lottery prizes awarded in relation to the amount spent on tickets. The personal income of residents in that state is also taken into consideration. 

Georgia ranked number one on Bloomberg's "sucker index, followed by Massachusetts and then by New York.

But there is no harm in daydreaming so we would like to hear from you.
