LFCDS Students Garner Exceptional Scores at IGSMA Competition

Lake Forest Country Day School students fare exceptionally well at this year's Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) contest, which was held Saturday, February 9 at Deerpath Middle School.

Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) students had an extremely successful showing at the 2013 Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) Solo & Ensemble competition, held on Saturday, February 9 at Deerpath Middle School. This annual contest provides area students the opportunity to perform practiced solo and ensemble pieces for a judge and receive feedback from professional
musicians. The contest includes woodwind, brass, percussion, piano, string, and
vocal music selections.

Students from LFCDS overwhelmingly placed in the first and second divisions of the competition, with several students achieving a perfect score. “We are so proud of our contestants for all of their hard work,” LFCDS Band Instructor Jen Lydigsen says. “Each student learned a lot about music in the process of preparing a piece for the contest. Not only did these students put in a great deal of extra time and effort to learn this music, but they also showed a lot of persistence in the face of a challenge.” Scott Baeseman, music teacher and Chair of the LFCDS Fine Arts Department, agrees with Lydigsen and says, “It’s all about the journey and not about the score.”

LFCDS congratulates all IGSMA participants for their excellent performances and hard work. Listed below are the names of the participating students under their respective division categories:
