The Importance of An Educated Voter

Mike Nerheim is a candidate for Lake County State's Attorney. He encourages all voters to compare the experience and integrity of the candidates and to vote based on an understanding of the issues.

If you are a Lake County voter who has attended the recent candidate forums I thank you for making the effort to learn as much as you can about both candidates.

Hopefully you see how and why I do not take the concept of integrity lightly. It is so important that voters focus on the candidate who will act swiftly and assuredly to bring change, strong leadership and fresh and innovative programs to the State's Attorney's Office. I will never waiver from being fair, focused on facts and actions to ensure justice is served, crime is fought hard... and not influenced by partisan politics.

With just over two weeks to go, and today marking the start of early voting, there are a number of other events coming up you are invited to attend to ask questions, or simply listen and learn.

There is coverage available to those who can't make it out to events and want to study up on both candidates, to compare our comments, our experience, our integrity and our commitments so that your vote will be an educated vote.

From the Patch coverage of Sunday's Lake County League of Women Voters Debate:

The questions began with one asking the candidates about how they would ensure that the office becomes more transparent, without sacrificing the privacy of those involved in sensitive cases.

"The role of the State's Attorney is to go out into the community and to tell people about what's going on," Nerheim said. "I don't believe in trying cases in the media ... but the public has a right to know what's going on."
