Lake Forest Girl Scouts Donate Pillows to Breast Care Center

The Girl Scouts Junior Troop of Lake Forest Country Day School visited the  Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Breast Care Center last week to donate pillows they hand-made for breast cancer patients.

“The gift of these hand-made pillows is such a kind gesture by the girl scouts,” said Cathy Spagnoli, MSHA, RN, CBCN, CBPN-IC, and nurse navigator at the Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital Posy Krehbiel Breast Care Center. “The pillows will bring comfort to our post-operative patients as they continue their treatment.”

The 4th grade girls made the pillows during a recent Girl Scouts meeting, and then took materials home with them to make additional pillows at home.  The Pillows for Pink are designed to be put under the arm to keep the arm from touching sensitive areas after surgery on the chest.  They can also be put between the chest and a seat belt in the car. The pillows include a tag that wishes the recipient comfort, peace and love.

“Our girl scouts hope that this small gesture shows the recipient that there are scores of supporters cheering them on through their treatment,” said troop leader Amy Benton-Roby.
